4S Ranch is a newer, upscale master-planned community located to the west of the 15 freeway, north of the 56 freeway, and is surrounded by stunning hillsides and abundant open space. Identified with the 92127 zip code, 4S Ranch shares this zip code with West Rancho Bernardo, Santaluz, and Del Sur.

Purchased by Ralph’s family in 1938, the area was previously named Ralph’s Ranch, titled after Ralph’s family that was well-known as the owners of Ralph’s chain of grocery stores. Prior to the residential development of 4S Ranch in the early 2000’s, the majority of the area had been utilized as business parks and industrial space.  Now encompassing 2,900 acres of land, the master-planned community of 4S Ranch includes approximately 4,700 homes, 1,600 acres of protected open space, numerous parks, 10 miles of trails, schools, shopping, and business centers.

4S Ranch students have the benefit of attending schools within the highly ranked Poway Unified School District. Two elementary schools are designated to the 4S Ranch neighborhood, Stone Ranch, and Monterey Ridge Elementary, while students in grades 6-8 attend Oak Valley Middle School. The Design39Campus, serving students from transitional kindergarten through 8th grade, is a new addition to the 4S Ranch educational community. Differing from the traditional education model, Design39Campus focuses on 1) creating meaningful learning experiences and 2) reimagining leadership structures. In addition to meeting school boundary requirements, enrollment to Design39Campus is typically determined by a lottery system. 4S Ranch high school students attend Del Norte High School.

Recreation is an important part of the 4S Ranch lifestyle. In addition to the 10 miles of hiking and biking trails, a 25-acre park provides a home to athletic fields, tennis and basketball courts, a roller hockey rink, and a Boys and Girls Club. Numerous neighborhood parks and tot lots and sprinkled throughout the community. The 4S Ranch Pool offers resident-members the opportunity to enjoy the pool and waterslides. 4S Connect is a community-wide fiber optic intranet which connects neighbors to each other, students to their teachers, and club members to their groups.  A community calendar allows residents to stay up to date on the current activities and events within 4S Ranch.

The heart of the community is the 4S Commons, a 53-acre town center that offers locals the convenience of multiple grocery stores, casual restaurants, fine dining, boutiques, retail, a public library, and a daycare. The 4S Commons is accessible by the main parkway and the pedestrian promenade.
