The name Santaluz, meaning “Sacred Light,” is inspired by the environs bestowed with the same quality of light which inspired the Plein Air impressionists in the early 20th century. Santaluz, the first phase of Black Mountain Ranch, is located west of 4S Ranch and Rancho Penasquitos, and south of Santa Fe Valley and Del Sur. It is an exquisitely beautiful, gated community situated on 3,800 acres of land that offers 24-hour security. It was designed with 1930s architecture in mind. There are no sidewalks, only meandering gravel paths.
The approximately 1,500 acres that surround the community is preserved and will be untouched land. Native foliage, rolling hills, and majestic canyons offer a stunning backdrop. A special touch is that all the street lights are placed facing the ground, so at night the stars shine brightly.
At the center of Santaluz is the Rees Jones-designed, 250-acre Santaluz Golf Course, a championship course crafted in accordance with the contours of the land and designed to blend challenge with beauty in a setting unlike any other. The course is highlighted by vistas and panoramic views, and framed by an award-winning native landscape.
The Santaluz Club provides its members with the ultimate of luxury and relaxation. It features a 35,000-square-foot clubhouse, private spas, bars, restaurants, and lounges. The private 18-hole golf course presents a championship course highlighted by panoramic views. Just below the club and situated across from the 11 acres Village Green is the 18,000-square-foot Hacienda. The Hacienda includes a resort-like swimming pool; six tennis courts; fitness center and an indoor basketball court.
There are more than 44 miles of walking, hiking, and biking trails within the whole community. Scattered throughout Santaluz are inspiration points, with trails leading to them. This offers a wonderful place to view the gorgeous sunsets or sit under the starry skies.
Real estate in Santaluz ranges from patio-home style properties in the 2000 square foot range to multi-million dollar estates. Communities behind the Santaluz gates include Casitas, Sentinels, Hacienda Sur, Posadas, Garden Homes, Spanish Bungalows, Belsera by Warmington, and the Davidson homes. There are also numerous custom estates throughout the community.
Just outside of the Santaluz gates are additional communities that are often referred to as within Santluz, but are not included in the Santaluz Club. These neighborhoods include Santa Monica, Verrazzano, Mirasol, and Sycamore Walk.
